My favourite ways to destress… Feeling stressed or anxious? You’re not alone, I promise. This is something many of us experience and while it may feel as though there is no way out, doing something to relax can really help release negative energy, allow you to breathe and feel light again.
I can’t stress how important it is to take time out for you, to breathe air deep into your lungs and to simply allow yourself to reset. I’m talking from experience when I say that this can really benefit the situation are you in. It’s easy to let stress get the better of you so if you’re finding things a little difficult, here is a reminder to take a step back and remind yourself that you are only human.
Here are some of my favourite things to do when I’m needing a little TLC.
Stretch. Taking time out to stretch or do a yoga session can help take your mind off your worries and allow you to focus on the present. Try starting your morning or ending the day with 5 minutes of ease. Take a long deep breath, stretch your body tall and long and bend over to touch the ground. And repeat. I like to stretch for around 30 minutes before I go to bed, but doing so for even a short amount of time can work wonders for your wellbeing.
Have a bubble bath. Or luxury shower. Gather your favourite products, put on your favourite playlist and give yourself time to unwind. Soothe your stressed out body by feeling the water beneath your skin and let your troubles wash away.
Turn on an oil diffuser. Just like the smell of flowers, essential oils can help make your house feel more like a home. Filling a space with a soothing scent adds comfort to your surroundings and can be very therapeutic. Aromatherapy is known to be natural way to destress so put a few drops of your prefered oil in a diffuser, sit back and relax.
Write it down. There’s something freeing about writing down your thoughts as emptying your mind on to a blank page can help to release your emotions and clarify your thoughts. I don’t write regularly but when I do put a pen to paper it helps bring awareness to how I am feeling and why I’m feeling like it.
Make yourself a cuppa. Hop in bed and read your favourite book/magazine because there’s nothing better than loosing yourself in a good read. I currently love The Messy Heads, it’s all about living, feeling and exploring.
