When Of the Earth Superfoods invited me to their mood boosting workshop as part of their #therealme campaign I wasn’t sure what to expect but whom could turn down a morning of yoga, raw chocolate making and face paint? It sounded like the perfect Sunday morning and it certainly did not disappoint. The fire was going and a gorgeous purple hue lit the room, it was cosy.
We began the workshop with a meet and greet, the slight anxiety I feel when turning up at these types of events soon passed after we all introduced ourselves by saying our name along with a word that described our personality. The words caring, loving, friendly etc. were said pretty quickly, so when it was my turn to describe myself I chose the word peaceful because as an ethical vegan, all I want to do is help make the world a more inclusive, harmonious, and conflict-free place to live in. TMI? Well, that’s #therealme.
We moved downstairs where Natasha Kerry taught a twenty-minute session of her yoga sleep method, which I really needed after a busy week. This practise is based on yoga Nidra, the state of consciousness between waking and sleeping. It was suitable for all experience levels, and sent us all into a deep state of relaxation. Some people even fell asleep during this, which I have to say is not surprising. While thoughts did drift in and out of my mind, I felt light and a deep relaxation spread across my body. At the end of the session I was reminded of the feeling I had after the first time I ever practised yoga, it was a though a weight had been lifted.
In our blissed out state, we headed up back upstairs where Mirjam, a health food blogger, taught us how to make raw chocolate. Although I knew how to do this, playing with the copious amount of ‘superfoods’ was great fun and needless to say, messy. Whilst the chocolate chilled in fridge, it was time to let loose with the face paint and polaroids.
I found this therapeutic, there’s something mesmerising about watching an artist at work. I was lucky enough to be painted by Greta, the body painter who made me look and feel like a fairy. After this, we devoured chocolate mousse pots and raw chocolate before heading home proudly with glitter and goodie bags in tow.
Here’s a reminder to take time out for yourself. It’s the little things we do for ourselves and others that come together to help bring us inner peace and happiness.
